INSURANCE & FEES

Your right to a
Good Faith Estimate.

If you don’t have insurance or choose not to use it, you have the right to receive a written estimate of the expected charges for your care.

Before you begin

At Northern Utah Psychology & Consulting PLLC, I provide Good Faith Estimates for uninsured and self-pay clients. Ask for an estimate before you schedule, or when arranging services. It should describe the expected charges for the services reasonably anticipated as part of your care.

Keep a copy. The estimate is not a contract requiring you to receive services, and actual costs may differ if your needs change.

Your evaluation estimate

See the private-pay FAQ for my current hourly fee. Your estimate includes anticipated professional time based on the information available at consultation. Because evaluations are individualized, time may vary. If substantially more time appears necessary, I will discuss this with you before proceeding with additional services whenever possible.

If your bill is higher than expected

If a provider’s bill is at least $400 more than that provider’s estimate, you may be eligible to dispute it through the federal patient–provider dispute resolution process. You generally must start that process within 120 calendar days of receiving the initial bill.

For details, see CMS guidance on your rights when not using insurance and the federal Good Faith Estimate timing guidance.
